Emergency Preparedness for Schools
Helping schools to provide a safe environment for students, faculty, and staff.
Public Consulting Group (PCG) has combined the skills and knowledge of our homeland security and educational services teams to provide a comprehensive, all-hazards approach to school preparedness. Whether it's a natural disaster, actual or threatened school shooting or bomb scare, or the coordinated attack of a terrorist organization, schools need to be ready to prevent, respond to, and recover from a crisis.
PCG is experienced in conducting preparedness assessments, providing guidance in the development of emergency plans, training school
and public safety officials in incident management and response, and conducting tabletop and full-scale exercises and drills.
PCG's established product lines in the area of emergency preparedness can be provided individually, or as a complete cycle designed to progressively improve a school's level of preparedness. PCG will work in partnership with school administrators and public safety officials to identify the services and solutions that are best suited for your school system.
PCG's school preparedness cycle includes:
- Assess: Complete a thorough risk assessment that accounts for existing threats, vulnerabilities and consequences, and assists school
administrators and public safety personnel in prioritizing and implementing mitigation strategies. - Plan: Review and update emergency operations plans to improve a school's capacity to implement a coordinated, effective response to a critical incident; capture and provide digital imaging data from school facilities for use by first responders in tactical and rescue operations; and develop Continuity of Operations/Continuity of Government plans that will assist schools and students in returning to
a sense of normalcy in the aftermath of a crisis. - Train: Deliver a training program to school administrators, faculty, and staff covering the National Incident Management System (NIMS), Incident Command System (ICS), emergency planning and response, and more.
- Drill: Design, develop, and conduct tabletop and full-scale exercises and drills based on realistic, challenging scenarios intended to assess and improve a school's plans and capacity to respond to and recover from a critical incident.
